Terms of Service

Last updated: September 13, 2026

From the desk of the editor: We believe in the same transparency we ask newsrooms to practice. The legal language below is standard, but the core of it is simple: we’ll tell you honestly what your site’s report can and can’t tell you, and we’ll be straightforward about what we collect and why.

Overview

Welcome to AI Readiness Check. The terms “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to AI Readiness Check, a service of Editorial Style LLC (“Editorial Style”). AI Readiness Check provides automated assessments of whether AI training crawlers, citation bots, and AI search tools can access, cite, and use content from a website, including scoring and related tools (the “Services”).

These Terms of Service (“Terms”), together with our Privacy Policy, describe your rights and responsibilities when you use the Services. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you should not use the Services.

Section 1 — Access and Account

You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction to use the Services. To use certain features of the Services, you may need to create an account. You represent that all information you provide is accurate and complete, and you are solely responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You may not transfer, sell, or share your account with any other person.

Section 2 — What AI Readiness Check Does

AI Readiness Check analyzes publicly accessible information about a website you submit — including its robots.txt directives, licensing and rights signals, and technical configuration — using automated tools, to generate a score and posture assessment (a “Report”) describing how accessible and protected that site’s content is with respect to AI training crawlers, citation bots, and AI search tools. AI Readiness Check does not access private, password-protected, or non-public areas of any website, and does not require you to provide credentials for the site being analyzed.

You may submit any publicly accessible website URL for analysis, including websites you do not own or operate. You represent that your use of the Services complies with applicable law and does not infringe the rights of the website’s owner.

If you are a website owner and object to AI Readiness Check analyzing your site, you may block our crawler using a standard robots.txt directive (User-agent: AIReadinessCheck / Disallow: /). Our crawler identifies itself via the User-Agent string Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; AIReadinessCheck/1.0; +https://crawlready.org/bot-info) and checks the submitted URL’s path against the site’s robots.txt before fetching; if disallowed, no report is generated for that site. Full detail on how AI Readiness Check’s crawler identifies itself and how to control its access is available at https://crawlready.org/bot-info.

As part of assessing whether a site selectively grants access to specific AI companies’ crawlers in exchange for payment, AI Readiness Check may send a small number of additional, read-only requests that identify themselves as GPTBot or ClaudeBot — the actual crawlers operated by other AI companies — solely to detect this kind of selective gating, and only where the site’s robots.txt already permits those crawlers. These probe requests record only the HTTP response status and the names of any payment-related headers returned, never their values or any other page content. This behavior is disclosed in full at https://crawlready.org/bot-info.

Section 3 — Accuracy Disclaimer; Not Professional Advice

Reports are generated using automated tools and are provided for informational purposes only. AI Readiness Check does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currentness of any score, posture assessment, or finding. Findings are general guidance based on observable technical configuration at the time of the scan and are not a substitute for professional legal advice regarding intellectual property, licensing, or data rights specific to your organization. AI crawler behavior, robots.txt interpretation, and third-party AI company practices can change at any time without notice, and a given score reflects a point-in-time technical assessment only — it is not a guarantee of how any AI company will actually access, use, or license your content. You are solely responsible for evaluating and implementing (or not implementing) any recommendation.

Section 4 — Pricing

AI Readiness Check is currently provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers or features in the future; if we do, this section will be updated and any change will not affect free features already in use without notice given in advance.

Section 5 — Intellectual Property

The Services, including all AI Readiness Check scoring methodology, criteria, design, text, and software, are owned by Editorial Style or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you may use a Report for your own internal business purposes, including sharing it with your organization’s staff, board, or leadership. You may not resell, redistribute for commercial purposes, or represent a Report as independently produced by you.

AI Readiness Check’s name, logo, and scoring methodology are trademarks/proprietary material of Editorial Style. You may not use them without prior written permission.

Section 6 — Automated Access, Bots, and AI Agents

This section applies to any automated tool, bot, or AI agent (“Agent”) accessing the Services on your behalf or otherwise. An Agent may not access or interact with the Services unless it identifies itself as an Agent in its request headers/user-agent string, does not mimic human behavior or attempt to bypass measures distinguishing automated from human use, and responds truthfully to any prompt intended to distinguish human from automated interaction. We may limit or block Agent access at our discretion.

In turn, AI Readiness Check’s own automated crawler identifies itself via a public User-Agent string and respects standard robots.txt directives when analyzing third-party websites, as described at https://crawlready.org/bot-info.

Section 7 — Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Services to: violate any law; infringe intellectual property or other rights of any party; harass, defame, or harm any person; submit false or misleading information; attempt to circumvent access controls; use unauthorized scraping, automated data extraction, or bulk-download tools against the Services beyond ordinary use of a Report; or interfere with the security or normal operation of the Services.

Section 8 — Feedback

If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Services, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them for any purpose, including improving the Services, without obligation to compensate you or keep them confidential.

Section 9 — Errors and Changes

We may correct errors in scoring or Report content, and may update or discontinue features of the Services, at our discretion and without prior notice.

Section 10 — Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Services at our discretion, without notice, including for violation of these Terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) will continue to apply.

Section 11 — Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICES AND ALL REPORTS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY FOR THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, TIMELINESS, OPERABILITY, OR AVAILABILITY OF ANY REPORT OR OTHER INFORMATION DISPLAYED THROUGH THE SERVICES. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE DISCLAIMERS, SO THEY MAY NOT FULLY APPLY TO YOU.

Section 12 — Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EDITORIAL STYLE AND AI READINESS CHECK, AND OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS, WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, PUNITIVE, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS OR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES OR ANY REPORT, INCLUDING ANY DECISION MADE OR ACTION TAKEN IN RELIANCE ON A REPORT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DELAY OR FAILURE IN PERFORMANCE RESULTING FROM CAUSES BEYOND OUR REASONABLE CONTROL, INCLUDING INTERNET OR EQUIPMENT FAILURES, OR THE UNAVAILABILITY OR NON-PERFORMANCE OF THIRD-PARTY SERVICES WE RELY ON TO OPERATE THE SERVICES. TO THE EXTENT ANY LIABILITY IS NOT OTHERWISE EXCLUDED, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO A SPECIFIC REPORT WILL NOT EXCEED $0, AS THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE.

Section 13 — Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Editorial Style, AI Readiness Check, and our officers, employees, and service providers from claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of law or third-party rights, or your use of the Services.

Section 14 — Severability; Waiver; Entire Agreement; Assignment

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Services. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them without restriction.

Section 15 — Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and applicable federal law, without regard to conflict of law principles. You consent to venue and jurisdiction in Pennsylvania courts.

Section 16 — Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time by posting the revised version with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance.

Section 17 — Contact

Questions about these Terms should be sent via our contact form.
